Kanha's sal and bamboo forests, rolling
grasslands and meandering streams stretch over 940 sq. Km in dramatic natural splendor.
This is original Kipling country, of which he wrote so vividly in the Jungle
Book. The Kanha National Park forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created
in 1974 under Project Tiger. This park is also the only habitat of the rare
hard ground Barasingha. The picturesque Park area, its innumerable wildlife and
wonderful flora make it a favorite destination of the nature lovers. The grassy
meadows, thick greens, chirping of endless number of birds and grazing of the
swamp deer, sambhar and chital will definitely make you forget the world
outside.
The park is open daily from 01st
November to 30th June, although management reserves the option to
close earlier if the rains begin before the end of June. The opening hours are
scheduled to accord roughly with the seasonal variations in climate, as well as
with the length of the day at different seasons.
